Online in Ontario

Playing Online Near Casino Rama

A weekend at the resort near Orillia is one thing; an online casino account is another. Ontario sets separate rules for online play, and they are laid out plainly on this page.

The rules

How Ontario sets the rules

Regulated online gambling opened in Ontario on April 4, 2022. The AGCO is the regulator, and iGaming Ontario handles the market's conduct and management. A private online casino has to clear two bars before it is lawful here. First comes AGCO registration; next, it needs a signed operating agreement from iGaming Ontario. To check any name, igamingontario.ca keeps a directory of the regulated sites.

OLG.ca works differently: it is the online casino run by OLG, the provincial agency.

Age and place both count here. Nobody under 19 may enter a casino in Ontario, and online casino play in the province is 19+ as well. You also have to be physically inside Ontario while you play. A weekend in Orillia counts the same as an evening at home in Toronto.

Opting out

Two ways to step away

BetGuard (betguard.ca) locks a person out of all Ontario-regulated online gambling sites, and OLG.ca counts among them. Its operator, since May 14, 2026, is iGaming Ontario. A block runs for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years, or for a term of the person's own choosing. It does not apply to land-based casinos, Casino Rama Resort included.

OLG offers My PlayBreak for casinos. That break covers all Ontario casinos and lasts 3 months, 6 months or 1 to 5 years; it cannot be ended early once it begins. Enrolment is easy: ring the OLG Support Centre (1-800-387-0098), talk to casino staff or stop by a PlaySmart Centre.

This guide

How this guide is paid

Commission money comes to the guide from a single partner, a privately held online casino. That partner's links appear on the home page, never elsewhere, each tagged Ad. One is a header button, one a block under the opening illustration, one a block at the page's foot.

This site leaves the partner unnamed, and another one may replace it. The links are intended for adults of 19 or over who are physically located in Ontario. This guide has no tie to the resort, Gateway Casinos, OLG, iGaming Ontario or the AGCO. Paid links stay off this page, just as they stay off every inner page of the guide.

Questions

Quick answers

Short answers, each one from the facts checked for this guide. Tap a question to open it.

Can someone staying at a cottage in Ontario play online?

Yes, if they are 19 or older, physically inside Ontario and using a regulated site. The same rules apply as at home in the city.

Where is the list of regulated Ontario sites kept?

The directory is at igamingontario.ca. A private site needs two things to be lawful: registration with the AGCO, plus an operating agreement struck with iGaming Ontario.

Which program bars a person from the casino floor itself?

My PlayBreak from OLG, not BetGuard. BetGuard blocks regulated online sites and does not apply to land-based casinos. A My PlayBreak casino break covers every Ontario casino and cannot be ended early.

Is the paid partner on the home page connected to the resort?

The links are paid for by a private online casino partner, not by the resort. This guide has no tie to Casino Rama Resort, Gateway Casinos or OLG.
